The Butterfly House contains a collection of over 60 tropical butterfly species, along with over 150 tropical plants, making it the heart of the facility. The establishment is named in honor of Sophia M. Sachs, who had a passion for discovery and shared it with children of all ages.
Castlewood State Park, originally a popular retreat for St. Louisans in the early 1900s, offers hiking and mountain biking trails suitable for all skill levels, including some of the best mountain biking locations in the St. Louis area. The park also provides opportunities for fishing and wildlife watching and offers numerous recreational facilities for visitors.
Queeny Park was previously owned by the late Mr. and Mrs. Edgar M. Queeny, the former having served as the first chairman of the Monsanto Company. The park includes the Jarville house, a historic landmark listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Ethel Queeny and Edward Greensfelder donated $1 million each for the construction of the family recreation complex and playground, which opened in September 1974.
Forest Park is a 1,300-acre urban park located in the heart of St. Louis, owned and operated by the city's Department of Parks, Recreation, and Forestry. It is one of the largest urban parks in the United States and has been open to the public since 1876. The park is a vital gathering place for people of all ages, races, and economic backgrounds in the St. Louis community, attracting more than 12 million visitors annually.
